National Grid is hiring a Senior Business Partner for our Finance Business Partnering department in Waltham, MA.
The Performance and Reporting group provides financial performance and planning support to the IT functional operating directors. This position will provide financial oversight and leadership to significant IT functional domains – on a worldwide basis. The position has an 90% focus on OPEX, 10% Capex.
A key focus of the role will be a combined view of both internal resources and external service contracts and expert understanding of how the costs are attributable to the NG Operating Companies.
The business emphasis is on current quarter and full year outlook vs plan and rolling forecasts. Oversight ensures infrastructure costs are billed to the appropriate OpCos in an accurate manner. The role provides advice and counsel for improved cost management by identifying opportunities to reduce costs and strengthen management and business/operational controls. Multiyear contracts are set up on the balance sheet and are accompanied with amortization tables for automatic monthly expense postings. This role will require expert knowledge in the accounting for cloud based solutions: SaaS, DaaS etc.
Responsible for financial and performance reporting of the IT Technology segments.
Lead financial analysis and trend outlook for the significant cost drivers of the segment.
Perform business partner role with the IT segment directors on budgets/forecasts and performance trends/challenges. Maintain a worldwide view of the IT segment through support channels in the UK.
Provide ad-hoc analysis to support requests from Cadence and IT operational review meetings.
Lead analysis and generate summary conclusions on rate case inquiries specific to your IT segments.
Responsible for maintaining reports and performance documentation.
Follows reporting guidelines and applies US GAAP, SOX and SEC requirements where applicable.
Utilizes knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, SEC requirements and IFRS in analysis and scenarios.
Responsible for supporting financial and non-financial controls to meet business requirements.
Primary Finance Business Partner to the CNI and Commercial organizations providing financial leadership and accounting support:
Ensures all required journals (accruals, reclasses, etc.) are processed both timely and accurately.
Provide monthly financial performance reporting and commentary for managers with monthly reporting deck summarizing major variances, outstanding issues, and risks and opportunities.
Provide forecast updates to management along with special targeted deliverables
Support the organizations in the development/commitment to their annual plan.
Develop financial KPIs/Metrics for areas of responsibility.
Create documentation of all allocations used in area of responsibility and ensure these allocations are reviewed and approved by the operating organization annually
Support and respond timely to audit requests for areas of responsibility.
Regulatory/Audit report - serve as liaison between audit requests to explain the nature of the charges and allocation rationale.
Provide quarterly data updates to the jurisdictional cost transparency reporting framework.
Issue periodic reports and support ad-hoc data inquiries.
Support various ad-hoc projects/analyses as needed.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years in business performance & reporting or data analysis.
Expert level experience in financial planning activities.
Background in business unit finance structures.
Experience researching and collecting financial data for accurate forecasting.
Background in utility service business activities.
Advanced computer skills in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Access; SAP preferred.
Excellent written / oral communication skills, follow-up, and negotiation skills.
Proven business partnering skillset/experience.
