HR Manager – Employee Relations and HR Projects focus – 6 months with potential to extend

Our team is growing and we’re looking for a driven and engaging HR professional to join our high-performing Talent Specialist Team based in our Sydney office. The Talent Specialist Team is a national team providing employee relations and HR project management to the EY business across Australia and New Zealand.

In this role you will support a high performance culture by working closely with the business in managing high risk issues such as workplace investigations, ill-health, redundancies and restructures, some senior performance issues and any other employee relations matters. You will also work closely with the Oceania Service Line HR Business Partners and other Talent Centres of Excellence in the project management and roll out of cyclical people processes for Oceania including but not limited to Performance Reviews, Remuneration Review, the Global Engagement Survey, Pulse Survey and whole of firm Talent initiatives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with people managers to create sustained solutions to individual employee matters

  • Balancing the firm’s commercial requirements whilst proactively managing risks.

  • Managing all high risk / complex employee relations matters including:

  • Redundancies / restructures

  • Disciplinary management

  • Intra-team disputes and facilitated conversations

  • Workplace investigations

  • Employee ill-health issues; and

  • Harassment, bullying and sexual harassment matters

  • Project Management of process reviews, EY macro process projects, and whole of firm Talent initiatives as required

  • Building the firm’s capability in appropriately managing employment relations matters by educating Partners, people managers and HRBPs in employment relations processes and legislation

  • Partnering with HRBPs and Centres of Excellence to facilitate the implementation of talent initiatives such as engagement survey action plans, diversity & inclusion and employee wellbeing initiatives

  • Coaching and mentoring HR Advisors

  • Actively participating in projects to develop new processes and process improvements

Success in this role will see you achieve the most appropriate outcomes for all stakeholders, executing key service level agreements, being accurate and timely in delivering work, and actively managing and identifying employee relations risks.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience


Degree in Human Resources or other relevant discipline


  • Employee Relations

  • Performance Management

  • Project Management

  • Change Management principles & practices

  • Technical HR expertise i.e. policies and procedures


The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in HR and be able to demonstrate expertise in the following areas:

  • Employee Relations

  • Performance Management

  • Influencing business leaders and managing diverse stakeholder groups

  • Remuneration Review

This role would also suit someone with an employment law background looking to move into a HR role. The role is offered on a 6-month maximum term contract basis which may have the potential to extend or become permanent.
