Position Description :

Market Research Director – Analytics/Data Science Lead for the Oncology Department

About the Global Customer Data and Analytics Team: We are responsible for improving decision-making and business results in Merck’s Global Oncology through innovation in data sciences and analytics.

We are looking to hire a Director to lead our Data Science team of highly motivated individuals who have a passion for healthcare and the ability to turn data into meaningful insights to guide Business Strategy across the Oncology business unit. As the lead for our Oncology Data science team, the person will guide data analytics across our portfolio of Brands for Merck Oncology that is the growth engine for current and future Sales for Merck.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of Secondary data analytics of the Oncology CBL to support different parts of the business including the Global Brand Organization, US Business Headquarters and ex-US Markets.

  • Support “Precision Driven Marketing” through consolidated analytics across a variety of data sources and build one cohesive story for the Brand teams.

  • Provide high quality Business Performance measures in real time and assist the Brand teams to take appropriate measures to achieve their goals.

  • Influence and inform commercial leaders and other Merck Oncology stakeholders of key initiatives and recommend strategic actions.

  • Help develop new customer analytic methodologies, and grow these capabilities across the CBL.

  • Provide analytical frameworks and bring thought leadership on key customers across multiple sources.

  • Work with data from sources like IQVIA, Brand Impact, EMRs, GPOs & Specialty Pharma.

  • Work with the other members of the Oncology team, to help drive evolution of enterprise customer analytics by leveraging emerging capabilities (e.g. machine learning, cognitive computing, deep learning) in close partnership with the members of the Market Research Excellence team, IT, Outcomes Research & R&D.

  • Build analytical systems that are scalable and easily accessible across the Oncology CBL.

  • Support and enable knowledge management standards, continuous improvement, and consistent service delivery across the Analytics team.

  • Partner with external Agencies to drive efficiencies within Merck and constantly look to embrace new and emerging technologies to be at the leading edge in this area.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Post Graduate Degree in Quant Sciences and/or MBA

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 6 plus years of strong Analytical experience

  • Experience in analyzing data from Secondary sources like IQVIA Sales/Claims, Brand Impact Treatment and Promotion Reports, data from big GPOs, Oncology Monitors and other such sources, both for the US & ex-US countries.

  • Experience is SAS, R or related software.

  • Experience in Budget ,Vendor & Project Management

  • Experience in triangulating data from multiple sources to build a story with actionable insights for Senior Management and Brand teams.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in management consulting and/or digital analytics across different industries, including Pharmaceuticals.

  • Ability to lead large scale projects with senior leaders to resolve business problems through identifying analytics needs and build effective solution options.

  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills: Be able to readily align interpersonal style with the individual customer needs.

  • Highly collaborative: is focused on the overall success of the organization, (vs his/her own); helps others take appropriate risks; allows diversity of thought to provide the most appropriate solution to the organization.

  • Strong project management skills: Clearly articulates scope and deliverables of projects; breaks complex initiatives into detailed component parts, and sequences actions appropriately; develops action plans and monitors progress independently

  • Must be an innovative thinker, self- starter, well organized and results orientated

  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to maintain strong cross-functional and cross-team ties to influence colleagues outside direct reporting structure.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow analytic capabilities of the organization and to be change agile.

  • Proven leadership in working in a highly dynamic business environment with constantly moving target, aggressive timelines for New Product launches and intensive scrutiny on Business Performance.
