Job Description

Works with and leads and guides

Environmental Services Workers as to proper procedures. Assists in the

coordination of department's daily activities.

  1. Assists in the performance of the department's daily activities.

  2. Performs on the job training with new hires in assigned areas.

  3. Inspects all areas after cleaning to ensure standards have been met.

  4. Reports all discrepancies and deviations from established standards to Director.

  5. Reports needed repairs and makes certain discrepancies are rectified.

  6. In the absence of the Environmental Services Manager, acts as liaison with Research Administration and determines work assignments.

  7. Ensures timely pick- up of trash, medical waste and soiled linens.

  8. Assists in decisions regarding work planning and the development of work methods and procedures

  9. Maintains tools and equipment in good condition.

  10. Follows state and county regulations for adhering to the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous waste. Carries out policies and procedures of the department

  11. Moves heavy equipment and furniture when required. Transports heavy furniture and/or equipment within the hospital as well as to places outside the hospital for disposal or storage.

  12. Prepares classrooms and conference areas; ensures rooms are prepared to specifications, as pre-requested; Ensures set-ups are broken down, areas cleaned and re-set for next event in a timely fashion.

  13. Assists in the maintenance of all equipment used in the operation of the department. Operates all equipment; inspects equipment at the end of shifts and ensure that no safety problems exist and equipment is clean.

  14. Checks supply stock and ensures proper stock for the next day.

  15. Provides leadership and support to members of the department; promotes department compliance with policies and procedures regarding electrical safety, hazard identification, waste disposal and standard precautions.

  16. Monitors staff performance in Education and Training classes.

  17. Supervises work activities of personnel to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions in the hospital.

  18. Tours Hospital continuously, covering each assigned area; observes cleaning crews at work, determines that instructions are followed and safety rules are observed.

  19. Prepares daily assignment schedules to include established routine duties, as well as special areas to be cleaned to maintain adequate service at all times to all areas.

  20. Supervises moving of furniture and equipment, meetings and function set-ups to insure promptness and accuracy.

  21. Controls issuance and return of keys and equipment; ensures that equipment and / or materials are returned in a sanitary and safe condition.

  22. Conducts performance appraisals in collaboration with the department Asst. Director

  23. Ensures that employee competencies are maintained annually.

  24. Monitors staff quality and accuracy with regard to environmental services functions via Weekly Inspection Audits; keeps management apprised of developments and outcomes

  25. Maintains accurate attendance records, work performance documents and other related records for the evaluation of employee quantity and quality of work.

  26. May be required to assume daily housekeeping responsibilities during high census and / or periods of insufficient staffing levels to provide for patient care needs and maintain optimum customer service

  27. Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in an Environmental Services area including supervisory or lead experience, required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to read and write in English.
