EY’s Valuation, Modelling and Economics (VME) practice is offering an exceptional opportunity for you to join this fast growing, collaborative and friendly team with approachable leaders. Our team helps clients understand and address their corporate finance challenges by providing robust and insightful analysis leveraging deep financial analytical skills and modelling capabilities. We are growing our practice and have roles available across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth.

The opportunity

As a Senior Consultant in the Valuation, Modelling and Economics team, you will play a key role with our clients, providing high quality strategic analysis and insight through the development of quantitative models and supporting financial analysis. Your models will support our client’s decision making across their capital agenda, including acquisitions and divestments, strategic options analysis, business case development and corporate forecasting. Throughout all projects, you will leverage your understanding of corporate finance to provide value-adding insights across a broad range of commercial issues.

Your key responsibilities

In this role, you will have a primary focus on financial modelling, and gain additional exposure to data analytics and economic analysis. You will spend your time working in teams to deliver on a wide range of engagements where you will play a key role developing the quantitative analysis to support executive level capital decisions. You will gain exposure to a broad range of clients, both public and private, operating across a range of industries and sectors. You will also have the opportunity to develop and share your own industry specific knowledge and specialise in sectors aligned with your experience and interests.

Skills and attributes for success

  • A degree qualification in a related discipline such as Business, Accounting, Finance, Statistics and Economics

  • A focus on financial modelling, with an interest in data analytics and/or economic analysis, and desire to solve challenging problems

  • Sound knowledge of financial and accounting concepts

  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills with the ability to build internal and external networks

  • Good time and project management skills

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Strong modelling skills with a proven ability to create robust and flexible models and financial analysis

  • Numerical and analytical skills, with a demonstrated aptitude in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Strong written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • 2-4 years’ of relevant experience (this may include another modelling team or consulting, accounting, economics environment)

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Strong industry knowledge in one or more sectors (eg, Transport, Real Estate, Mining & Metals) from previous consulting or corporate experience;

  • Achievement or progress towards a post-graduate qualification such as CA or CFA; and

  • Additional experience in any of the following would be valued: R, Python, Matlab, STATA, Eviews, Access, SQL, VBA, Data Visualization applications (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Spotfire)
