Lockheed Martin Manager Preliminary Design in Stratford, Connecticut
Description: Manager of Preliminary Design responsible to lead teams in the following areas: Engineering proposal technical leadership / concept development; Engineering estimate integration; Platform roadmaps & concepts, Dynamic Comparative Analysis Models (DCAM), Shipboard Integration and Air Transport (SIAT); and Cost Estimating Relationship (CER) development. Relevant skills include a working knowledge of requirements generation, analysis & tracking; conceptual design studies; aircraft configuration development; trade studies; project definition, development & leadership; RFI and RFP responses with associated proposal preparation; development of platform/product/technology roadmaps including integration of new technology initiatives; conduct of A/C Ship Integration and Air Transport analysis. The position will require interface with internal customers (including executive management) and external customers (DoD and International). The selected candidate will work closely with Engineering & Technology disciplines, LM integration teams, product platform teams, Sales and Business Development and external customers/suppliers. The candidate must have a strong background of fostering process improvements. The candidate will lead teams that guide win and product strategies in support of ongoing & new business development efforts.
12-20+ years of related experience in aircraft conceptual/preliminary design, systems engineering or equivalent avionics, airframe, subsystem analysis, design or test of helicopter systems. Proven leadership and ability to effectively work in teams. General knowledge of multiple areas of subsystem design, their interrelationships and effect on the overall product. An understanding of the conceptual design, business development and the acquire business processes. An understanding of the DoD and DCS acquisition and budgeting processes. The candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of current Sikorsky Product Lines (Hawks, S/H-92, Heavy lift), and experience/knowledge with maritime (ASW/SUW/AMCM/SAR), land forces (utility/attack/SOF) and other similar mission areas. The individual should have experience with project definition, development and leadership as well as Risk Management tools/techniques.
Demonstrated high level of leadership and teamwork skills. Ability to accommodate changing priorities on a daily basis is a must. Strong communication skills are required. US SECRET Clearance is preferred. Some travel will be required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 20 years of professional experience; or 16 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree.
Other Desired skills:
Demonstrated experience managing or participation in an Integrated Product Development team environment. Program Management Academy or similar experience. Business Acquisition Management University or similar proposal development experience. Knowledge/experience with Bill of Materials, Design to cost and Design for Manufacturing.
