Responsibilities

The following duties at the NB-V, Step 2 level. Candidates selected at the NB-V level will receive progressively more complex assignments to increase technical skills and experience to progress to the Step 2 level. As a National Bank Examiner/Bank Examiner (LB Field Examiner), you will:

  • Serve as head of a functional or sub-functional specialty area at a more challenging large bank. Responsible for supervisory oversight requiring extensive investigation for one of the functional specialty areas. Situations may be unusual and require highly technical analysis and judgment.
  • Spend a majority of time working in a supervision environment which is challenging due to a combination of the following characteristics: size, condition, product mix, bank management and board management teams, geographic footprint, growth, funding structure, examination staff composition, and examination time constraints.
  • lLead supervisory targets within assigned specialty area or specialty portfolios. Oversee the supervisory efforts and understand and implement the OCC’s program for Supervision by Risk. Plan, coordinate, and monitor supervisory activities, including identifying and communicating risk issues, developing supervisory strategies, determining the scope of supervisory activities, managing teams of assisting personnel, preparing reports of activities, and developing responses to address risks.
  • Lead discussions with large bank management on findings and recommendations. Prepare communications to foster positive changes within the bank.
  • Maintain effective communications within the OCC and ensure that appropriate coordination and follow-up activities take place. Engage in communications that are advanced in nature as a result of the size of the bank, the sophistication of the issues, and/or the receptiveness of the senior audience.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 60 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV band level or GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:

Band V:

  • Experience performing examinations or reviews in a financial institution to examine the institution's condition, adherence to regulations and compliance with applicable banking laws. Band V.2:

  • Experience conducting examinations or reviews to determine a financial institution's condition, compliance with banking laws and regulations including identifying and recommending corrective actions. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
