Deloitte Backend Data Engineering Lead in Rosslyn, Virginia

Back End Data Engineering Lead

Work you ll do

Deloitte is looking for a Backend Data Engineering Lead to join our Data Engineering team, driving rapid growth of our big data and machine learning product startup inside of Deloitte. Excellent candidates will have experience with developing solutions to integrate large and complex datasets, familiarity with graph technology, knowledge of Java, Scala or similar language, high creativity for problem solving, and ability to independently research a problem and implement the solution. Great communication, an attention to detail, ability to zoom in and out on difficult challenges are key qualities of great candidates.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop, document, and test data platform solutions

Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, and other engineers on the team to enhance the existing data platform

Troubleshoot operational issues in a rapid manner

Perform code reviews

Mentor junior data engineers

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Search (e.g., Apache Solr)

Experience with Graph Databases and Graph Analytics (e.g., DataStax Graph, Neo4j, Gremlin)

Experience building solutions on AWS.

Experience building highly scalable, secure technology products in a Production environment

Experience with Kubernetes.

Experience with DevOps technologies like Jenkins and Docker.

Experience optimizing data pipeline performance.

Experience with Test Driven Development and test automation tools

Familiarity with using Agile lifecycle management software such as Jira

Together with the Strategy practice, our Strategy & Analytics portfolio helps clients transform their business by architecting organizational intelligence programs and differentiated strategies to win in their chosen markets.

Analytics & Cognitive will work with our clients to:

Implement large-scale data ecosystems including data management, governance and the integration of structured and unstructured data to generate insights leveraging cloud-based platforms

Leverage automation, cognitive and science-based techniques to manage data, predict scenarios and prescribe actions

Drive operational efficiency by maintaining their data ecosystems, sourcing analytics expertise and providing As-a-Service offerings for continuous insights and improvements

Qualifications

Requirements:

5 years of experience with software engineering

3 years of experience developing and deploying data engineering / ETL pipelines

2 years of experience with Big Data platforms with at least one of the following: Cassandra, Spark, Kafka

Bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent field/experience)

Proficiency with IDEs, ideally IntelliJ

Proficiency with Git

Proficiency with Java and/or Scala

Proficiency with database systems and SQL

Experience with Linux/Unix

Affinity for learning new programming languages, tools, and applications

Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements

Strong ability to self-organize and meet set deadlines

Strong communication skills
