Verizon Openstack Test Engineer in Richardson, Texas
What you’ll be doing...
You’ll lead efforts to support the Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP). This position will require expertise and leadership in Virtualization, Red Hat Operating Systems, Openstack and associated tools to build and manage next generation Cloud Infrastructure with a focus on Red Hat Openstack, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Virtual Machines, and Operating Systems.
In this highly visible position, you will be responsible for leading maintenance engineering efforts for the Red Hat OS, Openstack, Resource Orchestration, Hardware Infrastructure, and all associated services related to Openstack Cloud computing (Swift, Cinder, Keystone, Glance, Ceilometer, Horizon, Nova, Neutron). You will be responsible for working with other Maintenance Engineering groups in planning and implementing the environment to support the requirement for VNF’s being rolled into the Cloud. As part of the role, you will work to manage testing within a standardized VCP environment. You will be responsible for the Red Hat Openstack environment, Red Hat Operating System, hardware and software validation, cross team/functional training, planning, configuration, and vendor relationship management to ensure network superiority and stability for customers. You will also be essential to the negotiation of associated contracts, maintenance terms and fees with associated vendors.
You will be responsible for being a subject matter expert who provides technical leadership and training with regard to the Red Hat OS, Openstack, Resource Orchestration (Heat), Hardware Infrastructure, and all associated tools related to Cloud computing (Swift, Cinder, Keystone, Glance, Ceilometer, Horizon, Nova, Neutron). The support will be provided during planning, staging, first office application, commercial deployment, and continued maintenance to a variety of teams that include, Network Implementation, Product Development, HQ/Area Network Planning, National Network Operations, Information Technology, and other Maintenance Engineering groups in order to fulfill complex business requirements for Cloud computing.
Roadmap, Lab, and VNF Validation -- You will prime planning, design, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new cloud hardware and infrastructure software. You will work with the vendor to develop and implement product roadmaps which improve the product performance, functionality. You will support Verizon Wireless (VZW) Cloud Product Development teams in the submission of requests for new product functionality. You will actively manage VZW and vendor lab environments in which they will test and refine new virtual software infrastructure before approval for installation in the production environment. You will lead operational teams in the Virtual Network Function (VNF) validation process for the first installation of new software.
Design consistency, standardization, and reliability – You will create and publish functional and technical requirements. You will analyze hardware/software design, features and enhancements in order to develop test plans which effectively confirm the successful deployment and operation of the products for NFVI. You will fully understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by all other Network organizations.
Outage management -- You will provide outage resolution oversight. You will act as the central VZW escalation/support contact to NRB, NOCC, customer service, national/regional operations and performance teams when major outages occur. You will collect, identify and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact application performance and efficiency. You will analyze system failures and develop short- as well as long-term solutions to address each. You will be responsible for vendor escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. You will be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved, Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.
Administrative management -- You will provide administrative management of the monitored products. This management requires you to negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work and General Purchasing Agreements. You will review vendor performance regularly in order to ensure technical compliance with agreements. When necessary, you will be involved in the collection of penalties from the vendor for non-compliance. You will be challenged to minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs "year over year".
Network automation deployment via, Ansible, Puppet, Python, Scripts, TCP/IP, Routing and OSI 7-layer protocol, UNIX/Linux, IMS and/or VoLTE, Server Load Balancing (SLB) and Global Traffic Manager (GTM), SDN/NFV controllers and orchestration, Openstack, KVM. You will interact with multiple organizations including National Network Organization (NNO), Network Implementation (NI), Planning organizations, and Sourcing.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Three or more years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Experience with Network automation and deployments methods.
Experience with Openstack.
Experience with Openstack services: Horizon, Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Ceilometer, Glance, Heat, Cinder/Swift.
Experience with Python, Bash Scripting.
Even better if you have:
A degree in computer science or engineering.
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
Experience with Virtualization (KVM).
Experience with Storage Methodologies.
Experience with Hardware Architecture (x86).
Experience with QCOW2, RAW, ISO images.
Experience with TCP/IP, Routing and OSI 7-layer protocol.
Experience with managing data center elements, hardware, software, power requirements.
Three or more years of vendor management experience.
