CCB Risk

Chase Consumer & Community Banking (CCB) serves consumers and small businesses with a broad range of financial services, including personal banking, small business banking and lending, mortgages, credit cards, payments, auto finance and investment advice. Consumer & Community Banking Risk Management partners with each CCB sub-line of business to identify, assess, prioritize and remediate risk. Types of risk that occur in consumer businesses include fraud, reputation, operational, credit, market and regulatory, among othersCapital Markets play a pivotal role in best execution strategies at various points in mortgage life cycle, spanning across origination, core servicing, and default servicing. Capital Markets Risk is responsible for developing and executing a discipline within home-lending where both risk and return considerations are factored into decision making. Key decisions that are supported include Held for Investment (HFI) Portfolio credit box decisions, HFI Portfolio Whole Loan Acquisition, Securitization initiatives, Whole Loan Sale, Mortgage & Home Equity Pricing & ROE, and periodic approvals and performance monitoring of credit and portfolio management strategies.

The Capital Markets Risk Manager will provide independent risk oversight for HFI portfolio management area within Capital Markets. Key areas of responsibility include but not limited to:

  • Lead the end to end review, risk assessment and oversight of HFI whole loan acquisition initiatives for Home Lending risk.

  • Perform detailed pre deal risk assessment outlining evaluation of credit, collateral, underwriting, due diligence, rep & warrant risks to advise senior risk management on whole loan acquisition opportunities.

  • Develop and maintain a dashboard to track performance of whole loan acquisition portfolios both at an individual transaction and an aggregate portfolio level providing visibility into expected vs actual performance (prepayment, delinquency, returns etc.)

  • Partner with the home lending origination risk team to develop an integrated approach to product/ policy and credit box decisions that incorporate capital markets input from a loan salability and risk-reward tradeoff perspective.

  • Conduct deep dive assessments related to the Home Lending business and provide capital markets risk point of view on new and existing strategies and initiatives impacting capital markets spanning across origination, servicing, and default management.

  • Develop an effective risk oversight structure through active engagement with the capital markets business unit being supported. Drive decisions through the appropriate governance.

  • Develop and maintain procedures and a playbook for risk oversight of whole loan acquisition initiatives consistent with Risk Appetite frameworks and regulatory guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in finance or quantitative discipline a plus

  • 7+ years of experience in risk, capital markets or related oversight functions in the financial services industry.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with residential mortgage products. Prior experience in whole loan acquisition or related experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of residential mortgage origination process and P&L. Knowledge of mortgage underwriting, due diligence, market risk, and valuation of fixed income products is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, critical thinking, investigative problem-solving and balanced decision making

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Able to synthesize quantitative and qualitative analysis into concise, executive-level communications.

  • Adept at interfacing with analytics and decision sciences teams and in driving outcome from those analytics to meet risk management objectives. The individual most be comfortable working in a matrixed environment.

  • Skilled at influencing multiple stakeholders.

  • Effective at working independently with meticulous attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure with commitment to deliver under tight deadlines

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of programming languages and cash flow modeling is a plus
