What you’ll be doing...

As the Verizon InnerSource and Open Source Product Lead ("Product Lead"), you will lead an enterprise-level InnerSource and Open Source initiative to
Apply Open Source principles, process models, and best practices to internal software development and innovation efforts, and
Increase geographically dispersed, cross-organizational collaboration with open source process models to efficiently deliver high-quality, reliable, and secure software products.
Lead the creation of a Strategic Plan that defines the InnerSource Program's objectives, goals, and success criteria
Create and execute an Implementation Plan with tasks needed to achieve InnerSource goals.
Discover strategic opportunities and market possibilities to business partners and IT leaders
Build Verizon's internal engineering reputation to attracts and retain talent
Partner with and support IT Rationalization, App Modernization, and Verizon Innovation Acceleration initiatives
Foster and manage partnerships with leading InnerSource companies like Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Walmart, PayPal, CapitalOne, and Bloomberg to share lessons-learned.
Work with the Executive sponsor to justify and procure funding for infrastructure, equipment, travel, events, and tools.
Community building and engagement
Strategize, plan, promote, and build an open, transparent, participative, collaborative, and governed InnerSource community within Verizon
Identify and build communities of interest (CoI), communities of practice (CoP), and InnerSource product delivery teams that span organizational and geographic boundaries
Build and facilitate community communication channels
Address cultural, managerial, and organizational challenges to InnerSource communities as they arise
Help teams and stakeholders define and understand InnerSource product delivery scope
Publish an InnerSource "readiness checklist" with references to activities that prepare teams to manage InnerSource products
Leverage community diversity and knowledge to create and document important architecture design designs
Make Verizon a fun place for engineers, designers, and creatives to work!
Cultural transformation and cross-organizational support
Work with HR, Legal, Security, and Vendor Management to:
Establish Code, Community and Culture foundation necessary for success
Focus on merit instead of status;
Build awareness around OSS program strategy, objectives, approach, roadmap, etc.
Support cost management with InnerSource/Open Source discovery adoption and deprecation
Expand our engineering capabilities with deeper competencies in DevSecOps, cloud native/cloud ready architectures, and security-based design
Increase IT innovation by mapping design-thinking processes to software product delivery practices (like behavior-driven development)
Recognize and reward individual, management, team, and (cross-)organizational collaboration
Train InnerSource teams to communicate effectively and efficiently; resolve conflict; and attract diverse contributors
Identify thought leaders within InnerSource teams, CoIs and CoPs in order to groom them for future leadership positions
Work with IT product delivery team leads and the Verizon Innovation Acceleration Initiative and:
Confer with Senior and Middle Management to gain sponsorship and support with Common Requirements and Module Code
Partner with the Review Committee to consult and support senior leadership with technology decisions and help change developer-mindset.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have:
Has xperience with the Open Source working model (or similar community-based working models)
Has experience running large programs within Technology organizations
Understands how to manage and drive change
Exhibit excellent soft-skills and networking skills
Communicate effectively and persuasively with executives, middle managers, and Engineers
Successful track record of managing complex development programs to deliver technical solutions
Ability to develop effective, matrixed, cross-organizational relationships
