Job Description:

Responsible for projects limited in scope to LOB products, processes or functions although some may have cross-functional or inter-departmental implications. Serves as primary contact to senior department managers for critical change initiatives. Responsible for analyzing present-state, developing alternative future-state approaches and facilitating implementation. Responsible for clearly defined responsibilities and accountabilities for key project roles. Assesses the adoption risk associated with the change effort. Communicate risks and rewards associated with decisions and actions to stakeholders in business-oriented terms and ensure all controls are in place to sustain risk mitigation. Identifies, develops and executes strategies and supporting tactics to engage and influence all stakeholders to make needed behavioral changes. Creates a clear, coherent approach to guide effective program/initiative setup, execution and control. Leads the Adoption & Sustainment of Change. Identifies and makes recommendations regarding work that will potentially proceed, be delayed or stopped when environment changes occur. This role may manage a team of resources and budget. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Typically 5+ plus years of project management experience.

Position: Sr. Initiative Portfolio Technology Manager

Organizational Overview:

Bank of America’s FICC Technology is responsible for an Initiative Portfolio in excess of $200m. The portfolio includes a highly complex portfolio of interrelated Derivatives Trading, Valuation and Risk Management initiatives, as well as Regulatory programs and eTrading initiatives.

The goal(s) of the FICC Portfolio Management team relevant to this role are;

  • Realize delivery efficiencies and optimize resources by managing the sequence and prioritization of complementary deliverables over the same resource pool.

  • Actively manage delivery risk across the portfolio and escalate to senior management accordingly. Summarize complex issues and blockers to progress, provide options and recommendations to senior management for decision making.

  • Establish strategic architecture and technical standards in partnership with technology leads, enforce those standards across LOBs and the technology stack.

  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from inception through delivery and production support training.

  • Leverage technology background, industry experience and a history of successful delivery at the bank to manage risk across the portfolio.

  • Act as engagement Lead for the portfolio, representing FICC Technology to stakeholders, technical partners and GBAM Technology.

  • Communicate program principles, delivery plan and RAID items clearly to senior leadership, stakeholders, FICC delivery teams and support partners. Ensure alignment to the program goals.

  • Identify and raise dependencies within the portfolio and externally. Escalate and manage these dependencies and incorporate into reporting routines.

Role Overview:

This role requires an experienced and highly skilled professional to manage cross-program operations within the FICC Technology Portfolio Management Team. They will escalate program issues and risks to ensure timely resolution and limited program impact. This role will be required to work closely with the project developers and architects across multiple projects/work-streams at the same time.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Cross program dependency management (both internal to FICC and external)

  • Cross program management of Risk, PnL and Pricing programs (CIRT, SFRC, IMA Risk Portfolio, IBOR Transition, FRTB, FRD), Trading (STW, Business Enablement), Application Decommissioning, Regulatory requests and related MRIA/MRA/SIAI/RIAIs)

  • Run Quartz horizontal workstreams across different organizational divisions (Quartz Core, Equities, GMOT, FICC, ERFT, QSG) to achieve remediate gaps to strategic state

  • Ensure high performing technology teams to drive delivery of business value across business and technology on scope, timeline and budget

  • Build and manage a small, cross functional team of Subject Matter Experts (PM, BA, Developer) that can be deployed as a SWAT team to assist in solving or restructuring troubled programs and/or milestones

  • Promote identification, escalation and debate of risks and issues

  • Executive presentation and communication with the business:

  • Ensure Line of Business partners/stakeholders agree benefits and support technology initiatives

  • Communicate the strategic architecture blueprints in a way that allows the business to understand the technology road map’s business value

  • Partner with technology teams to translate the strategic technology road map into proposed business and technology initiatives with supporting business cases

  • Work with business and technology teams to help prioritize business cases across both business and technology needs

  • Promote and ensure close partnership across business and technology teams

  • Qualifications

  • Front to back derivatives knowledge

  • Experience working within a large technology organization within a financial company

  • Strong problem solving mindset with a foundation of program management and program/technical simplification

  • Proficiency to talk in financial and functional terms to technology management and the business

  • Leadership skills to manage ad-hoc analysis or design deep dives

  • A detailed understanding of the bank legacy systems and the capabilities (both current and planned) of the strategic Quartz platform

  • Significant technology project/program delivery experience

  • Strong communications skill set – written and verbal

  • Strong financials skill set – written and verbal

  • Strong problem solving mindset

  • Partnership mentality, highly collaborative across diverse organization group

  • Ability to influence teams to achieve scope, timeline and budget

  • Ability to drive complex change requirements

  • Ability to use fact-based approach when dealing with difficult people
