WM Fiduciary Risk Management

JPMorgan Chase believes in a holistic approach to risk analysis by incorporating key risk disciplines including Credit, Market, Principal, Liquidity, Model, Legal, Fiduciary, Reputation, and Operational Risk and weighing these against returns. JPMorgan Chase’s firm wide Risk Management function operates independently of marketing and product groups within the lines of business. The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of the firm reports directly to the CEO and is accountable to the Board of Directors, primarily through the Directors Risk Policy Committee.

WM Fiduciary Risk is responsible for oversight of the fiduciary activities within WM. The successful candidate should be familiar with investments, products, internal control systems (Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), etc.), governance and operational risk in order to proactively and independently challenge the Business as appropriate. This may include leading deep-dive analysis of the business’s procedures, targeted reviews of RCSAs and changes to fiduciary control activities. The role will work closely with other Risk Management colleagues, the Business and key control functions including Legal, Compliance, Audit and Controls Management, to provide valuable feedback regarding fiduciary issues and emergent risks.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead targeted deep dives of key fiduciary control activities, governing frameworks and decision-making processes, including but not limited to those that impact client investment selection.

  • Provide independent, objective review of fiduciary control activities and/or function control environment, mitigation strategies and emerging risks.

  • Maintain awareness of risk and control issues within the WM business, whether self-identified or from internal /external audit.

  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of existing controls and provide direction on opportunities for improvement.

  • Understand the business’s RCSA, key risk & performance indicators, and other controls to identify negative trends and potential control gaps.

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal business and functional support areas.

  • Develop and deliver presentations to senior audiences such as risk committees, as needed.

  • Mentor junior staff

  • Foster relationships with the WM Controls organization in order to ensure effective work alignment, while maintaining a distinction between the first and second line of defense.

  • Minimum 5-7 years work experience in Private Banking Risk Management or other Risk Management capacities, Consulting, Legal, Compliance, or Audit

  • Very high analytic aptitude, as evidenced by educational credentials and/or work experience

  • Strong partnership skills; experience working on cross-functional teams

  • Ability to challenge business partners while working constructively to achieve a common goal

  • Control mentality – naturally skeptical, with an ability to anticipate unforeseen consequences

  • Ownership mindset – takes personal responsibility for outcomes; sees beyond their own domain
