[The Edge] will operate independently, with distinct leadership and governance. With a ‘startup-like’ mentality and the enthusiastic support and backing of Humana and its board, the initial leadership team will play a critical role in building the new business and changing the healthcare industry from managing transactions to supporting a member’s whole health. The Principle Solutions Architect will operate as a member of the [The Edge] technology leadership team reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The Principle Solution Architect will work with product and business partners to co-create new products, with engineering to co-design these products, and then create architecture blueprints to ensure the products meet security and deployment standards. In this role, you will be expected to define and maintain design patterns and reference architectures to ensure software solutions are reliable, scalable and extensible and are built to leverage assets and integrate with the broader enterprise ecosystem when applicable.The Principal Solutions Architect works with user groups to solve business problems with a broad understanding of technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals. The Principal Solutions Architect provides strategic advice and guidance to functional team(s) and is highly skilled with broad, advanced technical experience. The Principle Solution Architect is expected to manage robust and scalable systems by establishing best practices, executing solid design decisions, and ensuring use of defined processes and tools. The Principle Solution Architect is a key leader, influencing culture and quality by deploying “architecture as code” practices, and sets goals and strategies for the technology organization while overseeing the successful deployment of large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

The Principal Solutions Architect, will recruit and lead a small team (3-5) senior architects with deep technical expertise in cloud, analytics and other emerging technologies. The team will be accountable for understanding emerging technologies (AI, Automation, IoT etc.) and trends with a clear focus on driving business outcomes, creating efficiencies and a differentiated experience for consumers. The Principle Solution Architect is responsible for continuously assessing the current state of the technology platform, defining future state strategy, and identifying and documenting gaps and recommends for technology investment and business strategy realization.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Perform architectural analysis and design for systems spanning CRM, health plan administration, native cloud innovation, digital omnichannel and integration with partners and legacy platforms

  • Partner with various business stakeholders and technology leaders to translate program requirements into technical solutions and system designs

  • Lead the research, design, testing, and evaluation of new technologies and vendor solutions

  • Collaborate with cross-enterprise product and engineering teams to imagine, develop and implement POCs

  • Maintain an enterprise-wide view of current and future business and application architecture to provide solutions that integrate into the overall ecosystem vision and strategy

  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices

  • Develop an overall IoT and Mobile ecosystem strategy for members, care team, and for deployment devices into the home

  • Partner with senior IT and business leaders to provide strategic consultation for business process design/optimization, creating strategic roadmaps, performing rapid prototyping and implementing technical solutions to accelerate the realization of the business strategy

  • Researches and stay current on emerging digital technology trends from multiple creditable sources to assess relevance and then translate into strategy opportunities and tactical objectives

  • Partners with Enterprise Architecture, other domain and solution owners to create standards and set strategies for the enterprise

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the enterprise internally and with partners externally, in broad technology areas

  • Deep understanding of cloud computing and how SaaS, PaaS and IaaS solutions can accelerate innovation and delivery, while generating cost efficiencies.

  • 12+ years of experience in an enterprise setting in a highly technical and analytical role

  • Undergraduate degree in STEM related discipline (e.g. science, technology, engineering, mathematics).

  • Strong technology acumen, relentless technical curiosity, and a “why not” attitude.

  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written format in a clear, concise and professional manner, appropriately tailored to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to successfully influence others to achieve objectives in an environment of competing priorities

Role Essentials:

  • Digital leadership skills – capable of empowering and leading engineering teams to meet dynamic business needs; leveraging modern technologies to create solutions that are that are simple and engaging to consumers.

  • In-depth knowledge of public cloud computing architectures and services. Proficient in the use of cloud native technologies, cloud cybersecurity, and implementation patterns to lower costs, improve speed to market, increase efficiency, and enable innovation.

  • Promote best practices through ongoing collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Proficient at articulating key messages effectively, and guiding IT leaders and business partners on key concepts and strategies for enabling technology innovation.

  • Skillful in collaboration and diplomacy to ensure effective working relationships, build consensus across matrixed teams and work with external teams to negotiate data access.

  • Building collaborative relationships with team members, fostering a productive team environment, and coaching staff with timely meaningful feedback

  • Experience with native cloud data storage technologies and architecture

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully architecting digital solutions

  • Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved technology solutions personalized and engaging experiences for consumers

  • Demonstrated ability to influence technology decisions at all levels (senior management & leaders to technical contributors & staff)

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high quality, enterprise scale software products using agile, lean and/or DevOps methodologies.

  • Understanding of microservices architecture (design and implementation) and RESTful web service frameworks

  • Prior experience with relational, non-relational, and cloud-native database technologies (MongoDB, BigQuery, Cosmos, DynamoDB, CloudSQL)

  • Ability to stay current and adapt to new technologies and learn quickly

Role Desirables:

  • Masters or PhD in STEM related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

  • Healthcare domain experience including delivering products or solutions for payers, providers and/or consumers

  • Professional Certifications in public cloud technologies and/or solution architecture

  • Understanding of application, server, and network security and compliance requirements such as FedRAMP and HIPAA

  • Working knowledge of emerging standards and technologies in healthcare for data interoperability such as FHIR and Blockchain
