Verizon Senior Accounting Manager in Lake Mary, Florida

What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be leading a team charged with overseeing various accounting responsibilities. You’ll be organizing and supervising the team’s work, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency that our Finance team is known for. You’ll also be creating a great environment for your team by providing clarity, direction and feedback. And you’ll be on constant lookout for ways to use technology to streamline our processes. This position leads and directs a team of accountants and reports to an Accounting Director. Primary responsibilities will be to assist the director with the operations of the department.

  • Oversees the completion of complex analytical assignments and preparation of accounting related reports.

  • Supports the director with accounting, analyzing, and reporting on general ledger transactions.

  • Leads and directs a team of accountants responsible for assisting with the month end close, financial statement analysis and other tasks related to the maintenance and/or reconciliation of accounting records.

  • Coordinates closely with the other finance teams to ensure complete and accurate accruals and simplify processes.

  • This position will also take a more leading role in the company’s efforts to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley.

  • Possesses sufficient accounting acumen to review staff's work and analyzes the output for appropriate accounting treatment, completeness and accuracy related to general accounting.

  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders and responds in an accurate and timely fashion to inquiries related to the group’s activities.

  • Maintains ongoing interaction with client groups and other functional areas relating to objectives, deliverables, resource allocation and related matters.

  • Leads accounting projects to ensure compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.

  • Directs efforts in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures and policies for the group; leverages system and technology knowledge to drive simplification efforts.

  • Plans and structures work activities and sets deadlines for their team. Subsequently monitors the progress and results of team activities.

  • Responsible for recruiting, staffing, professional development and/or disciplinary action as needed and provides input to management on their team's overall performance.

  • Leads efforts for developing the skills and experience of their staff.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree orsix or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience managing a team.

  • Experience with accounting systems and applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and Blackline.

  • Knowledge of FASB, SEC requirements, SOX compliance and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, especially an MBA.

  • CPA certification or in the process of obtaining the CPA certification.

  • Direct project management experience, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and closing of projects

  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.

  • Experienced or proficient in (SQL) Structured Query Language to manage, develop and maintain databases or applications.

  • Experience designing and implementing accounting systems, running continuous improvement projects, and conducting root cause analysis.

  • Experience in the technology or telecommunications industry.
