Job Summary:

The transition manager is responsible for the service transition activities related to the firm’s complex infrastructure and application solution projects. The main activities are to ensure the smooth ongoing operation and support of the solution, and the successful technical deployment to the user community. The transition manager is responsible for assessing the transition scope and characteristics of each project, and from this construct and execute an appropriate transition plan

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Responsible for planning and overseeing the transfer of key information necessary for the support, operation and acceptance of solutions deployed into production. This includes operational readiness, support documentation and acceptance checklists.

  • Ensure service transition is planned and executed to schedule, budget and scope

  • Build transition plans including infrastructure/application support models, change management, learning & communication deliverables

  • Coordinate the business readiness plan, taking into consideration IT deployment, data migration, capability deployment (training and engagement activities) and any business activities required to integrate new processes or jobs into the ’business as usual’ environment

  • Be responsible for coordinating implementation activities, providing effective team leadership, including information flow to and from operations during project work

  • Co-ordinate routine installations and de-installations of items of hardware and/or software

  • Monitor the effectiveness of installations and ensures that appropriate recommendations for change are made

  • Assess, analyze, develop, document and implement changes based on requests for change

  • Liaise with business and IT partners on release scheduling and communication of progress

  • Work with project manager to establish end-to-end project plan and approach

  • Contribute to business case and ROM estimates for complex projects

  • Promotes awareness of transition planning and support process and strategy

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Ability to assess complex service transition risks

  • Demonstrate mastery of the process competency principles and practices

  • Ability to identify, escalate and manage project risks

  • Develop relationships across the IT organization

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Experience of transitioning complex IT projects with personal accountability for delivering to time and cost for projects typically up to $5m in value and 12 to 18 months in duration

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

  • Very good understanding of the customer strategy, services and business processes

  • Ability to work and team effectively with IT Services groups and other management personnel including on a global, virtual basis

  • Knowledge of service transition methodology, tools and templates

  • Track record of customer focus, based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises

  • Experience across packaged and bespoke systems and infrastructure, ideally on an international basis

  • Management skills to manage more than one transition simultaneously

  • IT background with experience across the systems development life cycle with experience in different project phases

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrates commitment to IT methodologies, processes and standards for transition planning and support

Supervision Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision provided by Service Readiness Lead; frequency on a weekly or as needed basis

  • Senior transition manager is expected to act independently to deliver to schedule, budget and scope; support provided as required and requested, and is self-driven and motivated

  • Senior transition manager coaches, mentors and supports less experienced transition managers

Other Requirements:

  • Flexible work schedule will be required – the individual must be willing to work on an 11.30AM – 8.30PM (or) 2.00PM – 11.00PM shift.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 7 to 10 years in a corporate IT environment

  • 5 to 10 years experience in transition project management or related technical field (application development, deployment/implementation and infrastructure)

  • Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred

Certification Requirements:

  • Project management certification is preferred (PMI/CAPM or PMP, PRINCE2)

  • Familiarity with ITIL v3 would be advantageous
