The Senior Specialist will be responsible for a broad range of market research, primarily supporting the assigned therapeutic or business area. Under the direction of the Team Leader, this position will plan, manage, and execute market research projects within timelines and budgets. This individual is a strategic partner to their business teams and is responsible for understanding their business challenges and managing market research to guide commercial decisions. Successful senior specialists in this role will proactively identify key business questions,determine the appropriate research methodology, analyze findngs, and integrate those findings across audiences for US & Global markets for actionable recommendations. This individual is expected to be collaborative and a strong team player, interacting with multiple internal and external groups, to influence decision-making for the teams they support, while working closely with their Team Leader. The Senior Specialist will have demonstrated consistently strong leadership skills with an ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment, while exhibiting a transformational mindset, cultural awareness, and resilience to effectively produce results.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for understanding the team's business issues and opportunities in order to develop analytical and market research solutions to drive business results for supported products or businesses.
Requires a strong understanding of Primary Market Research methodologies, Syndicated Reports and secondary data that can be leveraged.
Collaborates with Data Analytics team to complete analyses using available secondary data, syndicated reports and databases and synthesizes insights into primary market research efforts to tell and evolve the "story".
Independently manages competing priorities and demands from across the team.
Articulates the rationale, hypotheses, and methodology of research approaches to their business team, influencing a wide range of stakeholders to follow the research plan and make timely decisions based on recommendations.
Proactively interacts with multiple internal and external groups, has the ability to influence decision-making at a franchise level, and pro-actively identifies opportunities to grow the business.
Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work independently and deal well with ambiguity.
Manages plan budgets and modifies plans/budgets as changing business needs warrant.
Maintains and encourages full compliance with Merck policies and procedures.
Under the guidance of senior team members, ability to manage all aspects of primary market research including:
Framing critical business questions.
Drafting requests for proposals and articulate the hypotheses to be tested.
Selecting appropriate agency partners.
Developing research/analysis plans.
Managing the research process to deliver an objective understanding of key customers, competitors, products and current/future market developments.
Adhering to compliance requirements.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor Degree required.
Recent MBA preferred.
Required Experience and Skills:
A total of 3 years of relevant work experience in functions including sales, marketing, marketing/sales support, analytics or business analytics/finance.
Well-developed analytical skills, strong problem-solving and demonstrated ability to think strategically and objectively.
Can apply market research methods and models, is conversant with a variety of techniques.
Orientation toward collaboration/team work, ability to lead teams in execution of market research, interest in ongoing learning.
Ability to work independently, communicate effectively and a strong desire to lead change.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Pharmaceutical experience is a plus
Experience with pharmaceutical industry data sources, including claims data, patient-level transactional data, EMR, among others
Familiar with a variety of primary & secondary market research methodologies
