The Firmwide Indirect Tax Operations team resides within the CAO – Global Operations organization. The team works in partnership with Corporate Tax to drive common standards, a consistent view of risk, and common controls across the firm's corporate and lines of business (“LOB”) indirect tax operations functions. The team will also drive synergies, best practices, and efficiencies across the groups. The team is responsible for:
Driving minimum quality assurance standards, metrics, and consistency of procedures
Partnering with the Oversight and Control team to drive RCSA standardization for the firms indirect tax operations teams and
Leading cross-LOB programs to support the firm’s regulatory obligations and attestations to the tax authorities.
Role Outline:
The Firmwide Indirect Tax Operations Project Manager will report to the Firmwide Indirect Tax Operations Program Manager and will work with a range of functions across the firm including: Corporate Tax, LOB Indirect Tax Operations (Onboarding, Reporting & Withholding), Oversight & Controls, Legal Entity Controllers, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Audit, and Technology to deliver on key operational, control, audit and other initiatives supporting firmwide indirect tax operations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
Operations
Partner with Corporate Tax and JPMC stakeholder organizations to identify and address indirect tax-related issues
Develop and maintain a formal inventory of issues and errors and action plans; coordinate and document action plans with cross line of business issue owners
Establish and maintain governance processes to monitor performance against key performance indicators and quality assurance testing results
Complete sample quality assurance testing to ensure consistency of execution across the lines of business
Manage relevant aspects of vendor relationships on their delivered services and contracts; ensure their performance, accuracy and adherence to regulations and/or JPMC policies
Establish measurement, benchmarking, and executive reporting of tax programs to support the firms regulatory obligations and attestation requirements at a line of business level
Identify areas to enhance training and partner in the development of material with Corporate Tax and the Learning and Development team
Controls
Work with Corporate Tax and other internal control functions to ensure accurate and compliant Federal, State and local tax withholding and reporting
Ensure indirect tax-related processes and controls are appropriately captured in RCSAs; monitor performance and testing of controls; oversee sample testing
Support the identification and implementation of improvements to indirect tax processes and controls, including system implementations and/or enhancements partnering with the LOBs
On identified issues resulting in process breaks and/or RED events, coordinate with ‘process owner’ on root cause analysis, resolution and documentation
Tax Audits
Partner with internal audit during firmwide indirect tax audits
Assist Corporate Tax on external inquiries or external audits across firmwide indirect tax operations
8+ years of finance, operations, business management or consulting experience with large organizations and a proven record of high performance (preferably in financial services)
Experience in / knowledge of more than one of the following areas: indirect taxes, process and controls (e.g., design, documentation, evaluation, and remediation), issues and errors management, governance, executive reporting & metrics, financial products, operations, vendor management and system design
Ability to plan, lead and execute projects / work streams in an efficient and effective manner and with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to deliver projects through cross-functional teams; problem solver with strong project management skills; able to simultaneously “roll up your sleeves”, manage and coordinate multiple projects
Experience in strategic operating model alignment and process improvement, especially ensuring quality and control
Experience in identifying and mitigating operational risk through effective controls
Outstanding work ethic
Excellent communication, interpersonal, relationship and consensus building skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization; effectively gains agreement and consensus for ideas
Proven ability to be able to complete projects on time and on budget, and adjust to changing priorities
Desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required; familiarity with SharePoint and BI tools such as Tableau, with the ability to pick up new tools and applications quickly
Able to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment
Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
CPA certification - preferred
