Purpose of Position

Under the administrative supervision from the Manager of Campus Services, the Landscaper/Groundskeeper is responsible for landscaping and maintaining the grounds using hand or power tools and equipment. A variety of tasks are performed which may include sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, mulching, pruning as well as all activities/tasks required to maintain various zones on campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Operate University vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters and pruning saws

  • Mows campus lawns using push mower or riding mower

  • Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls using weed-eaters and edgers

  • Cares for established plants, flowers and lawns by watering and pruning to improve growth

  • Digs and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees using a shovel/spade

  • Polices assigned campus zone to include gathering and removing litter as well as weed removal

  • Cuts, rolls, lays and waters sod using sod cutter

  • Removes leaves using blower

  • Shovels snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spreads salt in those areas

  • Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains or other grounds features
