Position Summary:

This job involves Engineering and Level 4 support of the global Microsoft Configuration Manager environment. Responsibilities include engineering, and infrastructure/administrative support of the CM environment. Depending on the need, this may include project and/or personnel management.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Responsibilities may include any of the following the scope defined by his/her manager:

  • Act as a key Engineer of the CM software distribution system.

  • Develop tools and solutions to improve the overall support and functionality of CM.

  • Monitor the environment and takes corrective action when issues are found.

  • Ensure that the system functions fully and effectively, enabling software to be distributed and inventory collected and processed, while ensuring a positive customer experience and without negatively impacting the network.

  • Acts as a top tier escalation point on client issues, and performs research to resolve them.

  • Ensure that there is a robust client compliance toolset to ensure that the product is fully deployed and functioning.

  • Performs system administration, including the maintenance of system rules and settings.

  • Create advanced CM reports as necessary.

  • Gather system / client metrics for analysis and remediation.

  • Works at the direction of the team or project leader to deliver updates and enhancements to the backend and the client.

  • Participate in and sometimes helps lead projects.

  • Assist team leaders in enforcing strategic product direction.

  • Develop and document (i.e., technical specs, user documentation, flow diagrams, logic diagrams, etc) advanced tools, processes and procedures for support of the product.

  • Perform testing of new products and product updates prior to deployment into production. Provide content input to update end user documentation and training materials.

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Assist in defining and communicating vision, strategies and priorities for products and services within scope of responsibilities.

  • Assist in creation of business cases and present to management as necessary.

  • Completion of critical internal projects.

  • Provide recommendations and direction for possible vendor change.

  • Assist in prioritization of change requests for the products and services provided.

  • Minimize impact on production when changes are introduced into the environment.

  • Ability to identify potential points of failure, areas for improvement, and identifying pain points and bottlenecks.

  • Makes recommendations to the team lead regarding process changes and drive implementation, based on the needs of the business and product direction.

  • Provides recommendations and analytical expertise on enhancement requests, and challenge these requests if necessary.

  • Proven ability to coordinate resolution of issues on a subarea / area / global basis

  • Capable of managing small to midsize projects and leading sub-teams on large projects

  • Proven ability to coordinate resources to complete complex assignments

  • Ability to effectively communicate with other groups in IT Services, business practice representatives and outside vendors.

  • Enforces strategic product/policy direction set by management

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Configuration Manager (or SCCM) administration.

  • Includes architecture and engineering of CM environments.

  • Includes extensive knowledge of “Cloud Distribution Points” and “Cloud Management Gateways”

  • Knowledge of “Intune” and other “Modern Management” technologies (such as Windows Update for Business, Delivery Optimization, Co-Management, Azure AD,..etc)

  • Windows Deskop OS including Windows 7 and Windows 10

  • Windows 2012 Server (Setup, Configuration, Troubleshooting)

  • Networking - TCP/IP (Configuration of Client, Client Troubleshooting)

  • Microsoft Office - Word/Excel/Access/Powerpoint/Outlook

Optional Technical Skills:

  • SQL Server Administration

  • Advanced programming/scripting skills

Other Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, client service, communication, and organizations and project management skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and react appropriately in a crisis situation.

  • Sufficient knowledge of IT operations, responsibilities, work flow processes and procedures in order to resolve most inquiries independently.

  • The ability to effectively work and team with end users, management and staff members.

  • The ability to fully document processes and fixes.

  • The ability to create and deliver presentations as necessary

  • Proficient in Incident, Problem, and Change Management. ITIL training is strongly recommended.

  • Extensive knowledge and advanced troubleshooting skills of desktop applications.

  • The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

  • Solid research and analytical skills.

  • Ability to construct professional quality documentation

Supervision Responsibilities:

This position is not expected to include supervisory responsibilities, although the candidate may be asked to step into such a role on a temporary or permanent basis based on the need at the time and the ability of the employee.

Other Requirements:

  • Overtime will be required from time to time during projects and times of increased workload.

  • Work may be required at night or on weekends to support a project or during times of a system outage or emergency.

  • While not likely to occur often, some travel may be required.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline

  • Certifications, trade school degrees or a solid work history will be considered if such a degree has not been obtained.

Experience:

  • Over 12 years of desktop management experience.

  • Over 6 years of CM experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of IT operations.

  • People Management skills and Project Management skills are desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written English language skills

Certification Requirements:

  • Technical certifications are not required but will be considered a plus, especially if it’s closely related to the technologies referred to above.
