National Grid Manager of Operations HVDC in Ayer, Massachusetts

_About the Position:_

The Manager of HVDC Operations is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of a 2000MW HVDC terminal. Supervise a team of 7/24 shift workers that will operate the facility in close coordination with Canada who operates the other two terminals of the multi-terminal HVDC network. Responsible for managing NERC CIP cyber security compliance strategies and processes that will help to maintain compliance with mandated NERC CIP cyber security standards. Responsible to coordinate with the HVDC Engineering and Maintenance groups to support the operation of the facility.

_Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):_

· Manage the Operations team of 7 Network Operators in the safe and reliable operation of the facility 7/24. Provide on-call coverage and emergency response off hours

· Develop and maintain working relationships with ISO-NE, NE-TCC, NE-DCC, Hydro Quebec and other internal Ngrid departments

· Respond to emergency events and direct recovery activities including environmental events. Provide timely notification and reporting of all events

· Must be able to complete the Ngrid Clearance and Control program and become proficient in switching and tagging safety procedures

· Develop and coordinate the training and progression of the Operations team.

· Support the Director of HVDC in budget forecasting and management

· Provide planning and implementation of the NERC CIP cyber security compliance program, manage the 2 CIP compliance analysts. Work closely with the Ngrid CNI group on standardizing the compliance programs across Ngrid

· Lead and participate in auditing activities conducted for compliance verification by NERC, Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Internal Audit.

· Maintain, review and update HVDC specific documentation, processes, procedures and standards to be compliant with all Ngrid policies and procedures.

· Participate in department and/or cross-functional teams to complete special projects or assignments as requested.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

· BS degree in Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering

· At least seven (7) years of experience working with HVDC or Transmission Operations.

· Must possess strong writing, verbal communication and documentation skills and the ability to achieve and communicate with a sense of urgency.

· Ability to work with a variety of personnel and be conversant with both technical and business-oriented personnel.

· Ability to articulate how people, process and technology, collectively, are essential in establishing and executing a NERC CIP cyber security compliance strategy

· Ability to meet pressured deadlines, time constraints and periodic requirements.

· Demonstrated ability to develop long-range program plans, set goals and objectives, and decisions on program priorities and analyse program effectiveness.

· Prior experience with control system functions and protections a plus.

· Familiarity with the following:

o Incident management response

o Information protection (including information classification)

o Disaster recovery planning

o Change management and control

  • Basic knowledge of the Electric Distribution & Transmission Control Centers and Energy Management Systems is a plus.
