Bioprocess Research and Development in Merck Research Laboratories at the West Point, PA site is seeking a co-op student to participate in Vaccine Process Development. The assignment will involve close participation among vaccine process development staff as part of a vaccine candidate development team. Position Description: Duties may include cell culture, fermentation, purification, and bioconjugation in lab scale experiments. The individual will be expected to work as part of a team in a laboratory environment. Safe work conduct will be expected at all times. The individual will be expected to provide written documentation of data and provide an oral presentation to the work group at the conclusion of assignment. Work in this assignment may require handling or work in close proximity to pathogens, live virus, and/or other potential BSL2 agents. Skills required include good computer abilities, strong interpersonal skills, good lab technique, technical writing skills. This is a full-time co-op position based in West Point, PA. A housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and if required by the student must be funded 100% by the student.


  • Required: Pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Health Sciences, or a related major.

Required Experience:

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for a period of (6) months. starting September 2017

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an academic program.

  • Candidates must have completed high school and be currently pursuing a degree program, and returning to school after the Co-Op Program.

  • Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and writing experience.
