Systems Engineer

Key Role:

Maintain 99% uptime of production, staging, and development DoD Hadoop and Accumulo infrastructure platforms. Design and formulate implementation strategies for future Cloud-based infrastructure initiatives. Use enterprise automation, monitoring, and configuration management tools, including Puppet or Chef to manage configuration settings across various private Cloud clusters. Stay up-to-date on current Big Data technologies to evaluate tools and provide recommendations on system architectures. Maintain responsibility for managing and developing engineering standards for DoD Hadoop and Accumulo environments. Maintain accountability for maintaining the availability, performance, capacity, and continuity of a DoD client’s Hadoop environments.

Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with implementing and supporting production Hadoop-based infrastructure for an enterprise

-Experience with Cloud technologies, including Apache Solr or Apache Accumulo or performance tuning

-Experience with deploying software and configuration changes using Puppet or Chef

-Experience with high level scripting languages, including Python, Perl, and common Linux utilities

-Experience with IT problem solving and recovery from failures, remediation, and reporting

-Active TS/SCI clearance

-HS diploma or GED required

-DoD 8570 Security Certification, including Security+, CISSP, or CASP

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in working with IT architecture teams and IT vendors

-Experience with data driven IT problem and defect management, change management, or capacity management

-Experience with Agile and DevOps concept

-Knowledge of search applications, including Solr, ElasticSearch, Hibernate Search, or Lucene

-Ability to balance multiple concurrent activities and manage time efficiently

-Ability to logically sequence operational activities and oversee the work activities of others within a network operations team

-Ability to learn new skills and technologies

-Ability to document and diagram technical requirements and architectures

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-Red Hat Certified Systems Administration (RHCSA) Certification

-Cloudera or Hortonworks Certified Systems Administrator
