The Senior Specialist, Global Professional Engagement will be responsible for managing:

  • End to end planning and execution of global advisory board and expert input meetings.

  • End to end planning and execution of ex-US global medical education programs.

Responsibilities:

Expert Input

  • As the activity owner, manages the effective organization and execution of end to end franchise specific expert input activities (Advisory Boards, Expert Input Forum-EIF meetings and Consulting Service Agreements -CSAs) that are in alignment with the strategic plan, scientific platform and market needs.

  • Reviews / approves all action memos for expert input activities for the global franchise.

  • Leads the planning and execution of Advisory Boards and Expert Input Forums (EIFs) that includes the development of agendas and discussion guides, selection of appropriate global SLs, the compliant execution of each activity on site and the capture of the most relevant scientific input as it relates to the objectives of each meeting into an executive summary.

  • Assures that all final meeting documentation is in line with policies and procedures and archived in the appropriate online compliance monitoring tools.

Medical Education

  • As the activity owner, manages the effective organization and execution of end to end franchise specific global (ex-US) medical education programs that are in alignment with the franchise strategic plan, scientific platform and market needs.

  • Develops medical education program agendas (independent and with select professional & medical societies) that are in alignment with regulatory body governance and country specific guidance with the objective to improve patient outcomes through education of global delegates.

  • Informs the selection of key Scientific Leaders based on expertise and audience needs, oversees the development of planning documentation and meeting content and supervises the execution of the program.

  • Develops and executes against a communication plan to Merck subsidiaries.

Other Key Responsibilities

  • Must ensure that all global (ex-US) expert input programs, medical education programs and CSAs adhere to Merck and country policies and standards. Oversee all details on-site for programs.

  • Accountable for ensuring that appropriate ABC (anti-bribery, anti corruption) checks are complete including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and that contracts for US and Global experts reflect appropriate terms and conditions that are consistent with country specific guidance and Fair Market Value-FMV guidelines.

  • Has detailed understanding of internal and external governing policies and regulations in implementing medical education across different geographies.

  • Must work effectively across multiple markets globally to ensure that franchise strategic medical business objectives are understood and effectively accomplished through selection / execution of program type.

  • Maintains high level of scientific and market knowledge through ongoing participation at relevant internal and external forums.

  • Oversees and reconciles all budgetary and financial transactions for each activity.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, business or healthcare

  • Advanced degree desirable

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry in marketing/ marketing support/ medical education/ medical/ Medical/Scientific Liaison-MSL or Health Science Consultant-HSC/ market research/ compliance roles

  • 1-2 years in a project management role and experience leading cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated scientific acumen with experience working with medical or scientific leaders

  • High compliance IQ and experience working in a heavily regulated environment

  • Will to travel 35-40% of the time

Preferred:

  • Experience in developing/ overseeing customer contracts and demonstrated understanding of regulatory requirements for contracts/ payments to speakers and consultants

  • Experience working with and giving direction to meeting planning and scientific agencies

  • Experience in global medical program design & execution, including expert input programs & medical education programs

  • Experience in working with professional societies

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and expertise to identify innovative solutions to manage daily processes within compliance/ regulatory constraints

  • Model leadership behaviors

  • Employ solution orientated positive approach when collaborating with stakeholder
