Purpose of Job
Contributes to the overall success of GAML/ATF Operations globally by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for managing/coordinating with business units and departments in the preparation and submission of -examination/audit responses, schedule onsite activities including arranging facilities, review responses, manage tracking tools, conduct status update meetings and follow-up for resolution of all exam/audit findings. This role also supports the broader mandate of GAML/ATF Operations which includes a variety of special projects as assigned.
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Review & Risk Assessment:
Ensure that regulatory examinations/audits (both internal and external) of GAML/ATF Operations are properly coordinated.
Ensure that during and prior to the examination/audit all documentation and information requested by the examiners/auditors are provided on a timely basis.
Ensure that notices of examinations/audits to management are issued in a timely manner.
Ensure that applicable responses to examination/audit reports are delivered in a timely manner.
Regulatory, Internal and External Audits:
Ensure that regulatory examination reports that require periodic responses from the Bank are delivered on a timely basis to appropriate regulatory agencies
Evaluate, from a completion point of view, that responses to Regulatory examination findings, both formal and informal, and audit findings, prepared by management address all points raised in the examination/audit reports.
Prepare action plans and status updates to management with details of the regulatory examination, external audits, internal audit findings progress and periodic responses to examinations/audit reports.
Escalate any regulatory issues that will not be resolved before the original target resolution date (TRD), seeking approval to extend the date as defined by the GAMLU.
Coordinate with management and the Internal Audit Department on the validation of regulatory issues reported as resolved by the GAMLU, the responsible business unit head(s), and/or other relevant Bank stakeholders.
Provide reports to relevant management that will allow the review of action plans being uploaded to tracking tools/systems to assess the correctness of data input and the appropriateness of status updates being reported through those tools/systems.
Record in tracking tools/systems any required information related to external and/or internal regulatory examinations/audits.
Provide the GAMLU and/or other relevant Bank stakeholders with any additional information/documentation related to regulatory examinations/audits upon request.
Practice and Procedures:
Ensure information/documentation requests sent prior to the examination/audit are properly disseminated to corresponding areas.
Follow up on management to ensure that all information/documentation requested prior to the examination/audit are gathered and available for the examiners/auditors before the beginning of the examination/audit.
Ensure that the examiners/auditors requests of information/documentation during the examination/audit are delivered on a timely basis.
Ensure and coordinate integrity review of data provided to examiners, including consistency/reconciliation of such data to other internal and external reports provided to regulators.
Coordinate and attend meetings between the examiners/auditors and the Bank’s management, record action items and follow for resolution.
Follow up with management to achieve completion of action plans within target dates.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Sound knowledge in the Bank’s policies, procedures, operations, organization, internal controls and the Scotiabank Group compliance process
Knowledge of the banks compliance structure, compliance reporting processes and examinations/audit processes
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and deal with the workload to meet deadlines
High Degree of computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to communicate with internal and external groups
University Degree in Finance or Accounting (or related field)
CPA designation is an asset
Minimum 3-5 years in Audit and/or Finance/Accounting role
