The Director, Immunology Translational Medicine (ITM), will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing innovative, scientifically rigorous, well designed, and time-efficient Early Development Plans and disease strategies which further the Immunology Therapeutic Area’s (ITA) goal of benefitting patients with immune-mediated diseases. This includes designing and executing optimal first-in-human (FIH) and proof-of-concept (POC) studies within the ITA. This position will play a ‘dual role’, contributing both scientific as well as clinical development expertise to ITM projects. This work will include support for primarily Phase 0-2 studies.

Janssen Immunology has a history of bringing life-changing therapies to patients with immune-mediated diseases. The ITM group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. We are looking for a PhD level scientist with a strong Immunology background to join this collaborative research group, and help us bring these new therapies to patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a cross-functional team to design Early Development Plans and identify appropriate FIH, proof-of-mechanism (POM) and POC study designs for new molecular entity (NME) early development programs.

  • Implement approved strategies for early development of NME's including FIH/POM/POC studies and for new indication assessment of compounds in development

  • Design, conduct, analyze and report results on assigned clinical trials, including responsibility for protocol writing.

  • Be an ITM ambassador within and outside of the ITA.

Qualifications for the Director include:

  • PhD with previous clinical research experience preferred. Either a minimum of 5 years industry experience or considerable clinical trials experience in an academic setting is preferred.

  • Strong experience in a relevant immunology/inflammation disease area such as GI/Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Rheumatology or Clinical Immunology is preferred.

  • Strong Immunology scientific expertise is preferred.

  • A record of peer reviewed publication and experience in scientific presentations is preferred.

  • The ability to work in a matrix organization with cross-functional teams is required.
