Our disaster volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission to respond to emergencies and provide relief to victims of disasters. They serve in a number of capacities, including Disaster Action Team Member, Disaster Assessment, Caseworker, Mass Care Feeding, Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) Driver, Shelter Manager/Staff, Disaster Health Services and Disaster Mental Health.

The Red Cross of Alabama has a fantastic opportunity available for a Disaster Program Manager in Tuscaloosa. This position is a full-time position involving regional travel and working outside of normal business hours, as needed.

Job Summary:

The Disaster Program Manager (DPM) is responsible for the management of disaster services programs, to include local preparedness, response and recovery management, as well as management of government partnerships, implementation and management of all disaster services programs offered throughout Central Alabama. The DPM leads a primarily volunteer based team, and is responsible for ensuring there is proper development of disaster leadership volunteers in each of the disaster cycle program areas across approximately 13 counties. Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Experience: All viable candidates must have a minimum of: 5 years experience in disaster service and/or social services program delivery, and providing leadership to a department, program or service; demonstrated experience in coordinating staff and volunteer activities; the ability to interpret program trends, results, and related data to formulate recommendations. manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem-solving; relate well and effectively with diverse groups and individuals; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to develop project plans & budgets, as well as strategies to achieve organizational goals; demonstrates in-depth knowledge of program or service, the ability to create presentations and develop training modules, analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements; and the analytical and decision-making skills necessary to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements. Must have a proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management, and at least and intermediate-level of proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Prior supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Travel: Will involve regional travel up to 25%, as needed.
