The Executive Director will be the Head Actuary for the Senior Supplemental Insurance (SSI) business. The SSI business is primarily Medicare Supplement, but also includes Supplemental Health products (Cancer, Hospital Indemnity, Recovery Care, and Home Care), and a Final Expense Whole Life product. Responsible for pricing new products, the re-rating process for Medicare Supplement, experience monitoring and analysis, planning and forecasting, month-end reporting, state reporting, and certain financial reporting activities. Manage actuarial staff of eight people. Partner with the Sales team on Broker, Reinsurance, Affinity, and Exchange initiatives. Provide support to Operations, IT, Compliance, and Legal departments. Some travel is required in order to be successful in this position.
Sponsors, develops, and leads projects to support strategic and operating plans.
Broad decision making authority that may cross multiple disciplines, functions, or segments.
Reviews reserve recommendations and sets adequate reserve levels.
Develops assumptions, reviews competitive intelligence, monitors industry trends in pricing and benefit design of new products.
Works with state insurance departments in securing re-rates for Medicare Supplement products.
Provide support and assistance to sales and business teams to grow and retain the business.
Reviews recommendations and sets forecast in collaboration with Finance and business partners.
Develops creative technical solutions to a variety of issues. Stay apprised of technical innovations as potential solutions for actuarial issues and concerns and to help with experience monitoring and analysis.
Assures compliance with applicable regulations, laws, and standards.
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in Medicare Supplement highly preferred though other candidates will be considered based on overall experience.
10+ years of experience in the health care industry.
Must be an ASA or FSA and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), able to sign state rate filings and other required actuarial certifications.
Proven track record in managing individuals to drive results along w/strong communication skills.
Flexibility to travel (approx. 20%)
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Actuarial/Fellow of the Society of Actuaries is desired
Actuarial/Associate of the Society of Actuaries is required
Actuarial/Member of the American Academy of Actuaries is required
